EchoLink

Echolink is an interesting offering somewhere between amateur radio and VOIP.

You connect your computer / transceiver to the internet and can then take advantage of other transceivers all over the world to make amateur radio contacts.

You can use all types of devices to join the network, I have joined using my desktop and a set of headphones with a mic, while not the Amateur (Ham) Radio I was thinking off with antennas, coax and static this may be a fun place to start while I set up my shack.

You can also use your mobile phone or a tablet to run an Echolink app.

At this time, I have no idea what is needed to use this service or how to use it but while I am deciding on a transceiver this will be a fun place to start.
